Dr. Roberto Hernández-Orsini Appointed President of the American Board of Orthodontics

Dr. Roberto Hernandez-Orsini

The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) appointed Roberto Hernández-Orsini, D.M.D., M.P.H., M.S., of Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico, as President for the year beginning April 27, 2025.

The other 2024-2025 officers of the ABO are P. Emile Rossouw, M.Ch.D., Ph.D., of Rochester, N.Y., President-Elect; Anthony Puntillo as Secretary/Treasurer, and Jae Hyun Park, D.M.D., M.S.D., M.S., Ph.D., of Phoenix, Ariz., Immediate Past President.

The ABO Directors are responsible for establishing policy concerning the board certification of specialists in orthodontics. Each ABO Director represents one of the eight constituent organizations of the AAO and serves an eight-year term, which culminates in the position of president.

During his tenure as an ABO Director, Dr. Hernández-Orsini has represented the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists (MASO). As ABO President, he also serves as chair of the ABO Finance and Executive committees and as the ABO liaison to numerous professional organizations, including the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), the College of Diplomates of the ABO, the Graduate Orthodontic Resident Program (GORP), the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO) and the Society of Educators (SOE).

Dr. Hernández-Orsini has a private orthodontic practice in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. He is associate professor in the graduate orthodontic program at the University of Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine and also an assistant adjunct professor in orthodontics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry. Dr. Hernandez-Orsini is board certified and an examiner for the ABO. He is also a member of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists, Midwest Component.

Dr. Hernández-Orsini earned his master’s degree and certificate in orthodontics from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. His dental degree and pre-dental education are from the University of Puerto Rico. He also holds a master’s degree in public health from the University of North Carolina.

Dr. Hernandez-Orsini has published several scientific articles and has lectured in meetings held nationally and internationally.
